"Strive for 5" is in full swing.

So what exactly is it? "Strive for 5" is a marketing campaign designed to promote the importance of, and bring top of mind awareness to, local spending.

A recent city assessment, completed in 2006, indicated that the Jamestown trade area loses approximately $48,954,473.00 in annual revenue due to out-of-area spending. Our goal is for you to shift 5% or more of your out of town spending to the local economy. That extra 5% kept in Jamestown can mean an extra $2,447,724.00 in taxable sales. That’s revenue to help decrease taxes, increase infrastructure, increase jobs, provide assistance to local programs, education and more.

Where are you spending your 5? The Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee, Buffalo Mall and Mainstreet Downtown Association all encourage you to "Strive For 5" percent. An extra 5% can help you take ownership in your community. How can you "Strive for 5"? According to area consumers, local shopping means spending at least $100, weekly, locally. 5% of $100 is a mere $5 a week. Just $5 a week, on top of your current local spending, could mean millions in annual taxable revenue to benefit you, the citizens of this community.

Where can you "Strive for 5"? Anywhere, as long as it’s local; gas stations, grocery stores, retail locations, service departments, hotel/motels, restaurants and more. If it’s local, it’s where you can "Strive for 5".
